To operate in England, all care homes must be registered and follow the CQC regulations and guidelines. The CQC rate the homes following inspections based on the Fundamental Standards and KLOES (Key Lines of Enquiry), Safe, Caring, Responsive, Effective and Well Led.


The ratings are:

  • Outstanding
  • Good
  • Requires Improvement
  • Inadequate


Any breach of CQC regulations may result in a Requires Improvement or Inadequate rating which may adversely affect the running of the Care Home. It is also the CQC report that prospective clients and staff will view as part of the research process when looking to place a resident or join the staff team of a Home.
